Some features of coexistence and trust in urban contexts are similar regardless of the socio-economic context but the intensity, codes and level of trust that come with it vary remarkably from society to society. In developing and less wealthy societies, coexistence is characterized by the natural and apparently joyful chaos of people constantly swarming the streets for whom interacting with the other members of the same context with altruism and solidarity is an inevitable but still enjoyable part of life.

The habit of being constantly surrounded by others generates over time a sense of belonging, interdependence and coexistence that inevitably leads to unconditional trust. It’s when everyone in society doesn’t have much to lose and at the same time not much to gain, that making the best of coexistence becomes the only natural solution. This condition, combined with the socialist principles and a history of isolation, occupations and consequent ethnic diversity shaped today’s unique characteristics of the Cuban society. Apparent chaos in this specific context transmits, at a closer look, hope for a peaceful coexistence of humans based on basic principles and needs that most of the modern and hyper technological societies seem to have long lost.
